[Victoria, BC] – The Mt. Douglas Rams varsity football team finished with a 5-2 record in the regular season of the AAA West Conference and are heading into the first round of playoffs ranked #3 in the Province. The wild card playoff game will be hosted by the Rams Friday night at 4:30pm at Goudy Turf Field in Langford. The game will be against the 6th placed AAA East Conference team the WJ Mouat Hawks from Abbotsford. This will be the last home game of the season and is expected to see up to 1,000 fans in attendance.
“This is a talented team with past playoff experience at the Junior Varsity level,” states Head Coach Mark Townsend. “We will look to stellar contributions from every player but will especially depend upon our team leaders to play their absolute best football of the season to face the challenges of the 2021 playoffs. It was important for our team to carry over momentum from our final 2 regular season games into these playoffs and we are excited to have 7 of our players chosen for the AAA Western Conference All-Star Team.”
All-star players include:
- Quarterback: Hunter Swift
- Running Back: Miltiadis Koulelis
- Receiver: Malik Gagne-Smith
- Offensive Line: Sebastian Sibbald
- Defensive Line: Nelson Way
- Defensive Back: Bronson Pheiffer
- Specials Teams/Kicker: Giovanni Linuzzi
Prior to the game there will be the annual Rose Ceremony at 3:15pm recognizing the graduating Rams players and their families. These grade 12 players will be playing at home for the very last time as a Mt. Doug Ram.
Hunter Swift, starting QB states, “The opportunity to play one last time in Victoria with the support of the Mount Doug family will be a bitter-sweet moment in my football career. With the efforts to achieve this week’s goals, and advance in playoffs, the realization that this is my last game in all black might not hit me right away, but when it does, I’m sure it will draw a quiet tear. Then the moment will pass, and it will be on to the next task at hand; after 10 years of football, I’ve learned to simply live life one play at a time.”
